Welcome to our AFAR Cyber Shelter for Homeless Pets |
|
Our no-kill animal shelter is located down the street from the New York City Animal Control. There, unwanted or unloved dogs and cats are killed each week because there is simply not enough room and/or not enough people that want them. When a person comes by our shelter looking for Animal Control with a puppy, kitten or older adoptable dog or cat, it is very hard to say no. Sometimes we must because of lack of money.
These pets must be treated medically, altered, bathed and given a good meal and a warm place to sleep. They are walked by our staff every day. Most shelter pets never leave their cages. Volunteers take them out, play with them and give them some badly needed love. All this costs a great deal of money. And we are the only no kill shelter in the area. If you could find it in your heart to sponsor one of our featured pets, we can rescue the next one who comes along. We'll give you monthly updates on your pet's progress and advise the world when he or she finds a home. Won't you please sponsor one of these homeless companion animals to help us house, feed, walk and care for them. Our shelter exists only with the help of people like you who love animals.

Lucky was very lucky because his owner said their new landlord wouldn't allow them to keep their dog (how could you move somewhere that won't allow your dog?) Lucky was on his way to Animal Control to meet his death but we intervened. Lucky is 12 months old, is obedience trained, loves attention and going for long walks. He has a great temperament but may lick you alot.
Karen Seydel, Ukiah, CA" has sponsored "Lucky" |
Blackie was found tied to a tree in a park one morning. Some school children told their teacher who called us. We picked him up. He is a rottie/lab mix, around 18 months old. He is fully obedience trained and loves working for food! He has a great temperament and would make a fine but safe watchdog. He will be neutered before leaving the shelter.

Tookie is a big, fuzzy bear-like dog, part Akita but with the most gentle temperament. He has been obedience trained by our staff and is just the greatest dog. He's three, and big, so he needs a big house and yard and someone with a big, big heart!

Tango's could be your best friend! He's just the right size for an apartment or small home. He has been obedience trained by our staff

Baby is a small, very pretty Collie mix. She was found on the street and brought to our facility. She's already been adopted out once, but unfortunately was brought back to us after only a few weeks. She is very energetic and loves to play, but she also has the ability to calm herself down quickly. She's approximately one year old.

Dobie (ADOPTED!) is a purebred black and tan Doberman Pinscher. He is 6 years old and a large sized dog. He was surrendered by his owner because she was having a baby and couldn't keep him. He is obedience trained, housebroken and very sweet. He needs an experienced dog owner that will be a strong pack leader and has thorough knowledge of this breed. He is also a terrific watchdog.

Lexus is an energetic, 5 month old pit mix puppy. She is very playful, affectionate and loves other dogs. She's just a bundle of energy and would be a great family companion.

Magic Magic is a gorgeous, long-haired, white German Shepherd mix. He was found by a staff member wandering the streets of Brooklyn with another dog that has since been placed. He is housebroken, neutered and very, very calm with a wonderful temperament. He likes other dogs and is great around cats, would be a great with children of all ages. He's aprroximately one year old.

Montana is a yellow Lab mix, 10 months old and all puppy. He is playful, full of energy and is currently going through our obedience training program. He has a very characteristic face, with wrinkles that make him look like a mastiff. He will be neutered before he leaves the shelter.
"I am sponsored by my best friend Jane Boyce, Boston, MA."

Ruby is a purebred black and tan German Shepherd. She is 4 years old and was surrendered by her owners because they just didn't have time for her. She is fully obedience trained, crate trained and housebroken. She is a bit shy and undersocialized and needs an owner that will be patient and give her the attention she needs. Due to her fearfulness, we recommend a household with no children or other dogs but cats are OK!

Sammy looks like he could pass for a purebred black and tan German Shepherd but with a shorter coat. He is 6 months old and was found tied up in front of our shelter one morning. He is a typical puppy and would be great with other animals and children.

Zsa Zsa (ADOPTED!) is a purebred Neapolitan Mastiff, one year old and still growing! She is was given to us by her owners because of their inexperience of this particular breed. She will be a large sized dog when she's mature and needs lots of space to run. She is best suited for a home with no other dogs.
