Queens Community Animal Shelter

A Not-For-Profit IRS 501C(3) Charitable
Animal Welfare Organization

The Queens Community Animal Shelter is no-kill, private animal shelter and division of the American Foundation for Animal Rescue, Inc. that operates under a permit from the New York City Health Department in a storefront locartion in Rego Park, Queens County, in the City of New York. It is a member of the Mayor's Alliance for New York City Animals, an approved rescue organization of the New York City Center for Animal Care and Control (CACC), and a member of Petfinder.org.

Over 300 dogs and cats come through our doors each year. Some are surrendered by individuals or families that can no longer care for them, others are rescued from the city's animal control facilities that regularly euthanize cats and dogs due to lack of space, and some are abandoned or stray animals living on the streets of New York. When they come to our shelter, they are provided with healthy meals, a warm bath, a place to rest, exercise, behavioral training, human love and attention, and veterinary medical treatment and wellness services.

Pursuant to New York City Administartive Code §17-801 AnimalShelters and Sterilization Act, all animals leaving our shelter are spayed or neutered by licensed veterinarians in the community. They are also microchipped for identification and provided with a numbered AFAR identification tag. All appliacnts wishing to adopt an animal are thoroughly screened and no animal coming from our shelter is ever refused back if space is available.

If you would like to see photos and a description of some of our current cats and dogs that are available for adoption, follow the link to our shelter page at Petfinder.org. If you would like to sponser one of our homeless aniamls, please Click Here to see the pets that are available for sponsorship or adoption. Thanks to all the sponsors of our homeless pets!
